Vaughan Kitchen Renovation — Full Documentation + Costs

Just wrapped a complete kitchen renovation in our Vaughan detached (built 2001, typical builder-grade finishes). Sharing full details since I couldn’t find much specific to York Region when I was planning.

Starting point: Original builder kitchen — white laminate doors, black laminate counters, soffits above cabinets, drop ceiling over the island area, 30" stainless appliances from 2001. Still functional but visually a time capsule.

What we did:

  • Removed all existing cabinets + soffits + drop ceiling
  • New semi-custom upper and lower cabinets (Cabinetry Plus, Woodbridge location) — painted shaker in warm white
  • Quartz countertops in a warm cream/beige tone (not white — wife specifically wanted to avoid the cold white look)
  • New tile backsplash (3x12 subway in a matte warm grey)
  • New 36" slide-in gas range (Samsung) + integrated dishwasher + counter-depth French door fridge
  • Under-cabinet LED lighting
  • New pot lights (replaced recessed cans throughout kitchen)
  • Added a kitchen island (custom, built to match cabinet run)

Scope of electrical: 4 new circuits (dedicated for fridge, microwave circuit, dishwasher, island outlets). ESA permit + rough-in inspection.

Cost breakdown:

  • Cabinetry + installation: $24,500
  • Countertop: $6,800
  • Tile backsplash + install: $2,200
  • Appliances: $6,400
  • Electrical: $3,800
  • Lighting + pot lights: $1,900
  • Island custom build: $3,200
  • Demo + disposal: $1,400

Total: $50,200 + HST

Timeline: 7 weeks from contract to completion (biggest delay: 5-week cabinet lead time).

Happy to answer questions. Vaughan-area contractor recommendations also available.
