Vaughan Backyard Transformation: Interlock, Armour Stone, and Outdoor Kitchen

Just wrapped our backyard project in Vaughan (Woodbridge area) after 5 months of planning and 3 weeks of construction. Sharing the full scope and cost because I couldn’t find detailed Vaughan-specific examples when I was planning.

Before: Basic poured concrete patio (cracked, lifting at edges), no landscaping, chain-link fence.

What we did:

  • Removed old patio
  • New interlock patio (~600 sq ft, Unilock Beacon Hill flagstone)
  • Armour stone retaining wall along back property line (raised planting bed)
  • Flagstone pathway from gate to patio
  • Outdoor kitchen island (built-in BBQ, side burner, bar fridge, granite counter)
  • Perennial garden beds along armour stone wall
  • New cedar fence

Costs:

Item Cost
Interlock (supply + install) $28,400
Armour stone wall $11,200
Flagstone pathway $4,800
Outdoor kitchen structure $8,900
Appliances (BBQ, fridge, burner) $4,200
Planting + garden beds $3,100
Cedar fence (40 linear feet) $5,600
Total $66,200

LF Builders (lfbuilders.ca) did the interlock, armour stone, and flagstone. The outdoor kitchen was a separate contractor.

The transformation is genuinely stunning. If you’re doing anything similar in Vaughan or York Region, happy to share contractor contacts. Post your questions at home.renovation.reviews.
