I work in interior design and do a lot of renovation work across the GTA. Sharing what I’m observing in 2026 since I think it might be useful for people planning projects.
What’s genuinely popular right now:
Kitchen: Warm white shaker cabinets (replacing the grey that dominated 2018-2023), quartz in warm beige/cream tones rather than stark white, limewash tile backsplash, unlacquered brass fixtures, integrated refrigerators. People are moving away from the cool, clinical look toward something that feels warmer and more timeless.
Bathrooms: Large format rectified porcelain (24x48 or larger), freestanding tubs (where space allows), floating vanities with vessel sinks, matte black and brushed gold mixing in the same bathroom.
Living areas: Cove lighting (indirect LED coves at ceiling perimeter), built-in bookshelves, limewash painted walls, natural material mix (linen, wool, natural wood, stone).
Exterior: Dark body colours (charcoal, deep navy) with white or warm cream trim, black windows, front door in a statement colour (terracotta, forest green).
What I’m NOT seeing as much of:
- Open concept being completely open — people are reconsidering kitchen/dining visual separation
- Cool grey everything
- Waterfall-edge quartz islands as a status symbol (too common now)
- Subway tile
