Planning a bathroom renovation in East York and trying to nail down tile selection. After some research I’ve landed on the following approach — would appreciate any pushback or additions from folks who’ve been through this.
For shower walls: Large-format porcelain (24x12 or 24x24) with rectified edges for tight grout lines. The rectified edges are worth the extra cost for a clean look. Going with 1/16" joints and white unsanded grout.
For shower floor: Smaller mosaic tile (2x2 or penny tile) for adequate slope to drain. Porcelain again — the non-slip texture is better for wet areas.
For main floor: 24x24 large format porcelain. Budget about $1,500 for substrate leveling since large format shows any floor irregularity.
Total tile budget for a 60 sq ft bathroom: ~$2,800 material, ~$3,500 labour (complex pattern + shower Schluter system)
Anyone found good Toronto-area tile suppliers beyond the usual Home Depot run? I’ve heard Olympia Tile on Milner Ave and Floor & Decor in Mississauga mentioned — worth the trip?
Also — heated floor mat under the porcelain, yes or no? Worth the extra ~$600-$800 for a smaller bathroom?
