Step 1: Site Assessment and Quote
An LF Builders representative visits your property to assess: current surface condition, drainage characteristics, access constraints, desired paver type and pattern, and required scope (driveway only, front pathway, steps, border treatments).
The quote includes: complete scope of work, paver specification (brand, model, colour), base depth specification, timeline, and total price including HST.
What distinguishes a quality quote: Explicit base depth specification. A quote that doesn’t specify base construction depth is not a professional quote — it’s an invitation to cut corners after you’ve committed.
Step 2: Material Selection
LF Builders works with Ontario’s major paver manufacturers: Unilock, Oaks Landscape Products, Permacon. The selection visit covers paver size, colour, texture, and pattern choices. LF Builders can show samples and provide completed project photos in similar styles.
Step 3: Excavation and Base Construction
The foundation of a 30-year interlock installation:
- Excavation to required depth (12–16 inches for driveways, 8–10 for pedestrian areas)
- Compacted granular A base (minimum 10" for driveways)
- Edge restraint installation (spiked plastic or concrete border)
- 1" bedding sand screeded level
This phase determines the entire project’s longevity. Cutting base depth to reduce cost is the most common interlock shortcut — and the one that causes premature failure within 5–7 years.
Step 4: Paver Installation
Pavers are laid in the specified pattern, cut at edges, and compacted with a plate compactor. Polymeric sand is swept into joints and activated with water.
Step 5: Cleanup and Walkthrough
Site is cleaned of all excavation material and excess construction debris. Final walkthrough with the homeowner confirms satisfaction before project close.
