Starting this thread as a resource for west-end Toronto homeowners looking for contractor recommendations. The neighbourhood has specific needs (older housing stock, heritage considerations, smaller lots with lane access) that rewards finding contractors who know the area.
I’ll start with my own recent experience:
Project: Full main floor renovation + laneway suite at a Roncesvalles semi (1908 build).

What made them stand out:
- Had worked in the Roncesvalles Heritage Conservation District before — understood the heritage permit process
- Knew the neighbourhood’s housing stock (balloon framing, lime plaster walls, original hardwood, unusual floor levels)
- Didn’t oversell — clearly communicated what was realistic for our budget
- Communication was proactive, not reactive
The project: 18 weeks total (permit delays extended this from original 14-week estimate — not contractor’s fault). On budget within 8% of original quote.
