Moved into our Scarborough semi-detached last year and immediately noticed the eavestroughs were sagging, had multiple seams pulling apart, and the downspouts drained too close to the foundation. Called 4 companies.
Quotes received (140 linear feet, 4 downspouts):
- Quote 1: $2,100 — 4-inch aluminum, standard
- Quote 2: $1,850 — 4-inch aluminum, said 5-inch was unnecessary for our roof pitch
- Quote 3: $2,650 — 5-inch aluminum with leaf guard included
- Quote 4: $2,300 — 5-inch aluminum, no guard, extended downspouts to 6 ft from foundation
We went with Quote 4 at $2,300. The contractor pointed out our roof pitch is 8/12, which means a lot of volume comes off fast — 5-inch made sense.
Downspout extensions were a major recommendation. Our old 2-ft splash pads were letting water pool against the foundation — classic setup for basement seepage. The 6-ft extensions cost $180 extra and were absolutely worth it.
We did not get leaf guards — our red oak drops leaves for about 3 weeks in October and that’s it. Contractor said for our specific tree situation, annual cleaning was more cost-effective than a $1,000+ guard install.
