We had our kitchen cabinets professionally sprayed in Oakville last winter. The cabinets are original 2003 builder-grade maple — structurally fine, just dated and yellowed. Sharing the full experience.
Why spray, not DIY:
I watched enough YouTube to know that brush-rolling cabinets looks fine in photos but terrible in person. The raised panel doors on our cabinets would show every brush stroke. Professional HVLP spray was the only sensible choice.
The process:
- Day 1: cabinet company came in, removed all doors and drawer fronts, numbered them, hauled them to their shop
- Day 1 afternoon: masked and prepped boxes in place, sprayed boxes
- Day 2: returned, installed sprayed doors and drawers
- Total kitchen downtime: about 36 hours (we kept the fridge plugged in and used paper plates)
Paint used: Benjamin Moore Advance in Chantilly Lace (OC-17) — the standard white for GTA cabinet painters.
Cost:
- 22 doors + 8 drawer fronts + all boxes: $3,650
- New brushed nickel hardware (replaced the builder brass): $280
- Total: $3,930
Two years later:
Zero chipping. One small area near the pot drawer shows wear — the contractor said this is the most-used cabinet in any kitchen and gave us a touch-up jar. Used it once.
The honest verdict: For under $4,000, our kitchen looks like a $30,000 renovation. Cabinet painting ROI in the GTA is exceptional.
