We installed a 620 sq ft Unilock Umbriano interlock driveway in Oakville in spring 2024. Two years in, posting an update.
Installation specs:
- Unilock Umbriano 6x9 in Smooth Limestone blend
- 10-inch granular base (contractor upsized from standard 8-inch given our clay soil)
- Polymeric sand joints
- New soldier-course border in contrasting Basalt colour
- Driveway plus front walkway to porch (620 sq ft + 85 sq ft walkway)
Cost breakdown:
- Excavation and haul-away (8 inches of material): $2,100
- 10-inch granular A/B base supply and compact: $4,400
- Pavers supply (Umbriano, two colours): $8,600
- Installation labour: $6,800
- Polymeric sand: $320
- Total: $22,220
This was mid-range for Oakville — got 4 quotes ranging from $17,800 (thinner base, no upsizing) to $28,500 (different premium paver + full edging upgrade).
2-year update:
Zero issues. No settling, no heaving, no joint erosion. One paver had a factory chip we only noticed after installation — contractor came back and replaced it at no charge.
What I’d change:
I’d add the sealer application immediately after the polymeric sand cured. We didn’t, and the joints got some moss growth in year one — cleared up easily but avoidable.
