Wood Fence
Pressure-treated: $20-$40/linear foot installed. Cedar: $30-$55/linear foot. Staining or sealing every 2-3 years required in Ontario. 20-year lifespan with maintenance.
Vinyl Fence
PVC vinyl: $30-$55/linear foot. No maintenance. Premium brands (Bufftech, Jerith) carry lifetime warranties. Cheap vinyl becomes brittle in Ontario winters - don’t go budget here.
Aluminum and Chain Link
Aluminum ornamental: $35-$65/linear foot. Chain link: $15-$30/linear foot. Chain link with privacy slats: $20-$35/linear foot.
Permit Requirements
Fences over 2 metres require building permits in most GTA municipalities. Pool fencing (1.2m minimum, self-closing/latching gates) is mandatory in Ontario under the Building Code. Verify property survey before installation - boundary disputes are common.
