Southern Ontario Eavestrough Cost Guide (2026) - Quick Read

Comparing soffit, fascia and eavestrough costs in Southern Ontario? Ask for separate quantities and installed prices for each part of the job. A gutter-only quote and a complete roof-edge replacement are different scopes, even when both are described as an “eavestrough package.” Ask the community to help compare your quotes.

Guide by LF Builders, the operator of Home Renovation Reviews. This is contractor-authored planning guidance, not an independent price survey or a customer review.

What should the price include?

Use the same checklist for every installer:

  • Eavestrough: measured length, material, profile and size; corners, outlets, hangers and installation. Ask whether the price includes removing the old gutter.
  • Downspouts: number, size and length, plus elbows, extensions and the proposed discharge location. A per-foot gutter price may leave these out.
  • Fascia: distinguish new metal covering from repairs or replacement of the wood behind it. Ask how hidden damage will be priced and approved after removal.
  • Soffit: measured area or clearly defined extent, material, vented/solid sections and treatment of existing ventilation openings. Confirm how it connects to the existing assembly.
  • Access and cleanup: storeys, difficult rooflines, scaffolding or lift needs, disposal and protection of landscaping.
  • Optional guards: product name, installation cost, cleaning access and warranty conditions. Price them separately so you can compare the base drainage system first.
  • Final total: taxes, exclusions, repair allowances, payment stages, schedule and workmanship coverage.

Build a budget from the actual quote

For each line, record quantity × quoted installed unit rate, or a clearly described fixed price. Then add separately priced items and applicable taxes. Avoid adding labour twice when the unit rate already includes installation.

Budget line Record from the written quote
Gutter and fascia Separate measured lengths and installed prices
Soffit Area or defined scope and installed price
Downspouts and outlets Included quantity and any extra charges
Removal, access and repairs Included work, allowances and exclusions
Guards and other options Separate optional totals

If two totals differ, check quantities and exclusions before deciding that one installer is cheaper. Ask for an option that keeps sound existing soffit or fascia, and compare it with full replacement if both approaches are suitable after inspection. This guide does not provide a verified 2026 regional market-price range; your home’s measured scope needs a current written quote.

Choosing gutter size and discharge locations

Ask the installer to explain the proposed gutter and downspout sizing for the roof area, pitch, valleys and outlet layout. Specify the selected sizes and hanger arrangement in writing rather than assuming every “seamless aluminum” quote describes the same system.

In Toronto, the City’s downspout-disconnection guidance explains that redirected water should flow away from foundation walls without negatively affecting neighbouring property or flowing directly onto a City sidewalk. Confirm the suitable discharge arrangement and any applicable exemption with the City. Other municipalities have their own requirements.

Ice dams need a separate assessment

New gutters or guards alone do not address every cause of ice damming. Natural Resources Canada’s roofs and attics guide, section 5.5, explains how roof snow melts and refreezes at a colder overhang, and why attic air sealing and insulation matter. Have recurring ice, roof leaks or attic moisture assessed before treating gutter replacement as the complete solution.

For related discussion, see whether gutter guards cause ice dams and GTA drainage and grading planning.

Get a second set of eyes on the scope

Start a project question with your municipality, house type/storeys, the measured gutter/soffit/fascia scope, what each quote includes and the difference you want help understanding. Summarize the figures and remove your street address, phone number and other private details from any documents.

Editorial update, 13 October 2026: added the cost worksheet and quote checklist, linked current primary drainage/ice-dam guidance, and removed unsupported regional price and capacity claims. The earlier detailed blog link now redirects to a general blog page. Existing community replies remain below; older price comments reflect their own posting dates and scopes.
