Small kitchen, big mistake: what i would never do again

If your kitchen is small, every inch matters. I made all the classic mistakes.
Mistake 1: Dark cabinets
They looked luxurious in the store. In my tiny kitchen, they ate the light and made the room feel like a cave.
Mistake 2: No task lighting
Overhead light = pretty
Countertop lighting = necessary
Cutting vegetables in your own shadow is not fun.
Mistake 3: Choosing beauty over storage
Open shelves replaced closed cabinets — now I have nowhere to hide things that aren’t “aesthetic”.
Mistake 4: Wrong fridge size
A large fridge in a small kitchen becomes a wall.
What I’d do differently:
Bright colors or wood
Tall cabinets up to the ceiling
Deep drawers instead of narrow cupboards
One powerful, quiet extractor fan
Lighting under wall cabinets
Renovation teaches you fast: space planning beats decoration.
