What changed in v2.0. This is a ground-up rewrite. Earlier versions described an aspirational token with a fixed vesting schedule, a fictional contract address, and a marketing site at
crypto.renovation.reviewsthat no longer exists. This edition documents the system as it actually runs today on home.renovation.reviews: the real mint, the real on-chain distribution, the real Meteora Stake2Earn vault, and every reward rule enforced by the open-sourcediscourse-coin-enginethat powers the forum economy. Nothing here is a promise about the future — it is a description of the present, with the source code and the blockchain as the two sources of truth.

1. Executive Summary
Renovation ($RENO) is the community reward token of home.renovation.reviews — a Toronto-rooted home-renovation forum where homeowners, DIYers, and trades share real reviews, project logs, and advice. Unlike a forum that pays out karma or badges, every helpful action here earns a Solana SPL token that a member truly owns: it lives in a real wallet, it is transferable, and every reward is written to a public, permanent ledger.
Three things make the system work:
- Create-to-Earn — posting a topic, leaving a helpful reply, giving or receiving likes, and completing on-forum quests all credit $RENO through a single, auditable code path.
- Stake2Earn — members lock $RENO into a Meteora M3M3 stake-for-fee vault on Solana and share the trading-fee revenue of the RENO/SOL pool; on-chain stakers also earn a 1.5× boost on their forum earnings.
- Total transparency — the reward engine is open source, every payout is posted to the public $RENO Payment Ledger, and the treasury, staking vault, and liquidity pool are all publicly viewable Solana accounts.
The token is not sold as an investment and carries no promise of price. Its purpose is to make contribution ownable and to route real platform revenue back to the people who generate it.
2. What Renovation.Reviews Is
Home Renovation Reviews is a live Discourse community organized around practical renovation help. Its categories include General, Ontario (GTA-focused), DIY & Tutorials, Trade Talk, Basement Renovations, Outdoor & Exteriors, Interior Design, Challenges, Construction Fails, Homeowners, a Rewards section, and a Charity section (currently home to the Samm Simon 251 km charity run for cancer research). The forum is operated by LF Builders, a North York renovation company with a 50-year history and tens of thousands of completed projects.
The economic layer is delivered by three open components working together: the discourse-coin-engine plugin (the economy and its rules), the discourse-gamification plugin (the daily scoring backbone), and the hrr-ux-pack theme component (the member-facing UI — the reward hub, leaderboard, quest board, and Stake tab). When the plugin is present it is the single source of truth for balances, tiers, and payouts; when absent, the theme falls back to read-only defaults.

How to read this distribution. The two largest accounts are not private holdings — they are working infrastructure. Account #1 is the Stake2Earn vault, where members’ own staked tokens sit; roughly 1.11B RENO (~25.5% of supply) is actively staked there today. Account #2 is the operational treasury that pays out forum rewards, keeps the platform running, and funds jobs. Notably, the treasury also stakes its own $RENO — it is the single largest staker inside the Stake2Earn vault — so the operator earns yield on the same terms as the community. Account #3 is the liquidity pool that lets anyone buy or sell $RENO. In other words, the majority of “concentration” is capital put to work on behalf of members, all of it publicly auditable.

5. The Reward System — Full Transparency
This is the heart of the document. Every rule below is enforced server-side by the open-source discourse-coin-engine; nothing depends on trusting the client. All credits flow through one function — DiscourseCoinEngine.credit_score — which writes to the gamification_scores table and emits a real-time event. There is no second, hidden payout path.
5.1 How Earning Works
A member’s balance is the sum of their daily scores. Actions on the forum credit score in real time; the running total determines rank, tier, and quest eligibility. Because there is a single write path, every credit can be traced to a reason (tip, bounty, airdrop, quest_reward, manual_payment, stake_confirmed, vote_reward, and so on) and surfaced to the member instantly over MessageBus, with an email fallback for offline users.
5.2 Create-to-Earn: Posts, Replies, Likes, Votes
The base layer rewards ordinary good-faith participation — starting topics, writing helpful replies, and giving and receiving likes — through the gamification scoring backbone. On top of that, the coin engine adds Reddit-style feed voting wired directly to $RENO:
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Reward to an author per eligible upvote | 2 $RENO |
| Voter must be trust level ≥ | 1 |
| Voter account age must be ≥ | 3 days |
| Daily cap per topic | 50 $RENO |
| Daily cap per author | 200 $RENO |
| Downvotes | Never pay, never claw back |
Voting is post-centric: the original post and every reply are independently votable, so reply authors earn on upvotes too. Un-voting never removes tokens already earned. These guards (trust-level gate, account-age gate, per-topic and per-author caps) exist to keep throwaway accounts from farming rewards.
5.3 Quests — Exact XP & $RENO Values
Quests are server-verified: when a member claims one, the engine re-checks their real account record (QuestValidator) before granting anything. The exact values, straight from the source:
Onboarding quests
| Quest | XP | $RENO |
|---|---|---|
| Write an intro post | 50 | 200 |
| Set a custom avatar | 50 | 100 |
| Write a profile bio | 50 | 100 |
| Give your first like | 25 | 50 |
| Link a Solana wallet | 100 | 500 |
| Set your location | 50 | 50 |
| Enter your first topic | 10 | 25 |
| Read 10 posts | 25 | 50 |
| Visit for your first day | 10 | 25 |
Progression quests (tier thresholds per stat)
| Family | Tracks | Reward formula |
|---|---|---|
| Reviewer / TopicLord / Helper / Beloved / Explorer / Reader / Voyager | posts, topics, likes given, likes received, days visited, posts read, topics entered | XP ≈ √threshold × 50; $RENO = threshold × 5 (both capped) |
| timeReader | hours read | XP = hours × 10; $RENO = hours × 25 |
Trust level (tl_1…tl_4) |
Discourse trust level | XP = 200 × level; $RENO = 1,000 × level |
Streaks (streak_N) |
consecutive active days | XP = N × 30; $RENO = N × 75 |
Milestone quests
| Quest | Requirement | XP | $RENO |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balanced | likes given & received ≥ 100 | 1,000 | 3,000 |
| Balanced 500 | likes given & received ≥ 500 | 5,000 | 15,000 |
| Completionist 50 | 50 quests claimed | 5,000 | 15,000 |
| Completionist 100 | 100 quests claimed | 10,000 | 25,000 |
| Completionist 150 | 150 quests claimed | 15,000 | 40,000 |
| Grand Slam | 200 quests claimed | 25,000 | 50,000 |
Diamond Hands quests (require continuous on-chain staking)
| Quest | Requirement | XP | $RENO |
|---|---|---|---|
dh_stake_30 |
30 days continuously staked | 600 | 3,000 |
dh_stake_90 |
90 days continuously staked | 1,800 | 9,000 |
dh_stake_180 |
180 days continuously staked | 3,600 | 18,000 |
Every quest is capped at 50,000 $RENO / 100,000 XP per claim, and the whole quest system is capped at 50,000 $RENO per user per day. “Holding-only” quests (reaching a score or leaderboard rank) grant recognition but no extra tokens, by design. Charity flags tracked only in the browser (the Samm Simon samm_* quests) are trophy-only and grant no tokens server-side, precisely because the server cannot independently verify them.
5.4 Tier Ladder
Lifetime $RENO score places each member on a six-rung ladder. Thresholds and names are the live defaults:
| Tier | Score threshold | Tier name | Display title |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | Beginner | Newcomer |
| 2 | 100 | Bronze | Forum Friend |
| 3 | 1,000 | Silver | Reno Regular |
| 4 | 5,000 | Gold | Renovation Pro |
| 5 | 25,000 | Platinum | Master Builder |
| 6 | 50,000 | Diamond | Legend |
Reaching a new tier triggers an on-profile animated tier ring (from Gold up) and an optional tier-up notification.
5.5 Tips, Bounties & Peer Rewards
Members can move value directly to one another:
| Mechanism | Rule |
|---|---|
| $RENO tips | Minimum 10 $RENO per tip; up to 1,000 $RENO/day sent |
| On-chain SOL tips | Real peer-to-peer SOL via Phantom, wallet-to-wallet, server-confirmed on-chain (no treasury involved) |
| Bounties | Post a question with a $RENO reward (minimum 50); escrowed and paid to the chosen answer |
| Mentorship | 250 $RENO milestone reward for mentoring |
| Spotlight | 100 $RENO for a featured contribution |
5.6 Themed Weeks, Verified Pro & Bonuses
| Program | Detail |
|---|---|
| Themed Week | A rotating weekly focus applies a 1.5× multiplier plus a flat +100 $RENO bonus per qualifying post (idempotent — counted once per post) |
| Verified Pro | Verified contractors get a 5,000 $RENO bonus and a badge; requires ≥ 7-day-old account, trust level ≥ 2, and ≥ 5 posts |
| Daily Chest | A daily claim that doubles as an engagement ping |
| Streak Freeze | Protect a streak for 50 $RENO, up to twice per month |
| Email click reward | 5 $RENO for the first click from a forum email each day |
| Random airdrops | Optional admin-run drops (disabled by default; capped and receipted when on) |
5.7 Anti-Abuse & Daily Caps
Transparency includes disclosing the guardrails:
- Global earn cap:
coin_engine_max_earn_per_hourlimits per-user earning velocity (default 500/hour). - Quest cap: 50,000 $RENO per user per day; 50,000 $RENO / 100,000 XP per single claim.
- Vote caps: 50 $RENO/topic/day and 200 $RENO/author/day; voters gated by trust level and account age.
- Server-side verification: quests, votes, tips, and stakes are all re-validated against real records; the client is never trusted beyond identifying which action it is claiming.
- Sybil defenses: optional Phantom-signup checks (wallet activity / minimum balance / review queue) for spam control.
6. Stake2Earn — On-Chain Yield
Stake2Earn is the on-chain half of the economy. It uses Meteora’s M3M3 “stake-for-fee” program: members stake $RENO into a shared vault, and the vault distributes the swap-fee revenue generated by the RENO/SOL liquidity pool to stakers, weighted toward the largest and longest-committed positions (the top staker list). This routes real trading activity back to committed community members rather than to an external market maker.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Program (M3M3 stake-for-fee) | FEESngU3neckdwib9X3KWqdL7Mjmqk9XNp3uh5JbP4KP |
| Fee vault | 6esQowpCsyPSJqixnudjAV7NnGAnAGdRQv8pQJr37gEt |
| Underlying pool | EgCgA4PF2vWNxcFYXp8suM83n8c7n8amgByRSXmLaV1n |
| Reward assets | Swap fees in RENO and SOL |
| Currently staked | ≈ 1,113,813,639 RENO (~25.5% of supply) |
| Fee-share reward window | Rolling 7-day unlock |
| TVL threshold | $5,000 (Meteora’s distribution threshold — not yet reached at current market value) |
Two ways staking pays:
- On-chain fee share — stakers in the top list accrue a share of the pool’s RENO+SOL swap fees, claimable on-chain through Meteora.
- Forum Staker Boost — the coin engine verifies each member’s stake directly on-chain (reading the vault’s top-staker list), matches it to their linked or custodial wallet, and applies a 1.5× multiplier to their forum earnings. The boost is credited daily, is anti-compounding (it never pays twice on the same base), and is capped at 2,000 $RENO/day.
Staking is also the gate for the Diamond Hands quests (§5.3), which reward continuous staking duration — unstaking or dropping off the top list resets the streak. The engine keeps a first-seen continuity ledger so duration is measured honestly from on-chain state, not from a client counter.
7. The On-Chain Ledger & Transparency Surface
The platform is built so that a skeptical member can verify claims themselves:
- Public $RENO Payment Ledger — a permanent forum topic (id 47016) that records transfers, each cross-referenceable to a Solana transaction and wallet.
- Live on-chain reads — the forum exposes cached endpoints for real circulating supply (
/coin-engine/solana/token_supply.json) and any wallet’s real $RENO balance (/coin-engine/solana/token_balance.json), so the numbers on the site come straight from the chain. - Public leaderboard & Community Pulse — period-filtered rankings and an on-chain $RENO card (supply + your balance + Solscan link).
- Admin transparency endpoints — an automated Stake2Earn audit (
/admin/coin-engine/stake2earn.json) and a treasury-activity feed built from archival RPC signatures. - Open source — the reward rules are the code: the
discourse-coin-enginerepository is the canonical specification, and this white paper simply narrates it.
Because the engine, the ledger, and the blockchain agree by construction, “trust us” is replaced with “check for yourself.”
8. Wallets
Every member has a Solana wallet capable of holding $RENO. Two paths exist:
- Phantom-linked — connect an existing Phantom wallet; the pubkey is stored on the account and used for tips, staking verification, and on-chain balance reads.
- Custodial auto-generated — for members without a wallet, the engine can generate a keypair, encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM (PBKDF2-SHA256, per-row salt). Exports are rate-limited to defend against credential theft.
Linked wallets are what connect a forum identity to the on-chain Stake2Earn vault, so staking rewards and the Staker Boost reach the right person.
9. Technical Architecture
| Layer | Technology |
|---|---|
| Community platform | Discourse (home.renovation.reviews) |
| Economy engine | discourse-coin-engine (Ruby plugin) — scoring, quests, tiers, tips, bounties, staking bridge, ledger, emails |
| Scoring backbone | discourse-gamification (daily gamification_scores) |
| Member UI | hrr-ux-pack theme component (id 31) — reward hub, leaderboard, quest board, Stake tab |
| Supporting components | discourse-latest-geo (geo-ranked feed & digests), discourse-shorts (short-form video) |
| On-chain staking | Meteora M3M3 stake-for-fee + DLMM RENO/SOL pool on Solana mainnet |
| Wallets | Phantom integration + encrypted custodial keypairs |
| Chain access | Hardened multi-RPC reads with retries/fallbacks; results cached |
| Real-time | MessageBus credit events with email fallback for offline members |
The design deliberately keeps a small, stable API surface so Discourse upgrades don’t break the economy, and every server setting (coin name, tier ladder, caps, reward amounts, feature switches) is admin-configurable.
10. Value Loop & Supply Mechanics
The intended loop is straightforward and, importantly, already wired: good content attracts traffic → traffic drives swaps on the RENO/SOL pool → swap fees accrue to the Stake2Earn vault → stakers (community and treasury alike) receive that revenue → rewards and boosts flow back to the members generating the content.
On supply, this edition is deliberately honest. Approximately 26% of the TGE mint (~1.54B RENO) has been permanently removed from supply, primarily via the LP burn after launch, and the mint authority is renounced so no new $RENO can ever be created — the cap is real and immutable. There is no automated ongoing burn running today; $RENO spent on in-platform features (shop, boosts, AMA bookings, streak freezes) recirculates through the treasury rather than being burned, unless an explicit burn action is taken and disclosed. Earlier “deflation-by-design, 100% burn on every boost” language described an aspiration, not current behavior, and has been removed to avoid overstating the mechanics.
11. Roadmap
Presented as current state plus grounded next steps, not promises:
| Status | Item |
|---|---|
| Forum economy: create-to-earn, quests, tiers, tips, bounties, feed voting | |
| On-chain Stake2Earn (Meteora M3M3) + 1.5× Staker Boost + Diamond Hands quests | |
| Public $RENO Payment Ledger, live on-chain supply/balance reads, leaderboard | |
| Phantom + custodial wallets; geo-scoped engagement emails | |
| Grow RENO/SOL liquidity toward the $5K TVL threshold so on-chain fee distribution activates fully | |
| Deeper DEX routing (Jupiter) for the “Get more $RENO” flow | |
| Broader marketplace/escrow surfaces; expanded verified-pro tooling |
12. Risk Factors
- Market volatility — $RENO has thin liquidity and its price can move sharply or to zero.
- Early-stage economics — the Stake2Earn TVL threshold is not yet met, so on-chain fee distribution is limited at current market value.
- Concentration — infrastructure accounts (staking vault, treasury, LP) hold a large share of supply; this is disclosed and auditable but is still concentration.
- Regulatory — token classifications and rules vary by jurisdiction and may change.
- Technical — smart-contract, RPC, or platform failures are possible; the engine is designed to fail safe but cannot be risk-free.
