Jas. W. Glover, Ltd. — General Contractor in Hilo, HI (Est. 1935)

Jas. W. Glover is one of Hawaii’s oldest active construction firms. James Wilson Glover founded the company in Honolulu in 1935. He also served in the Territorial House of Representatives. The company incorporated in 1946 and expanded to the Big Island, where highway and infrastructure work was abundant. They hold Contractor’s License ABC-003, one of the lowest-numbered active licenses in the state, and now operate out of offices in Hilo, Honolulu, and Kona.

The project history runs long: segments of the H-1 Freeway and Pali Highway, bridges along the Hamakua Coast, Kawaihae Harbor, the Nu’uanu Reservoir, the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, runways and taxiways at Hilo International Airport, and the Keauu Bypass Highway. Building construction has included the Keauu Elementary School, additions to Pahoa High School, and the Kaiser Hospital Hilo Clinic.

Why it’s on home.renovation.reviews

Glover’s 90-year operating history is unusual in any market. License ABC-003 isn’t just a low number — it represents a firm that has been continuously licensed and active through nearly every decade of Hawaii’s modern development. For large-scale civil or institutional work on the Big Island, very few companies can match that depth, and their long history with state, county, and federal agencies means the bid and permitting process holds fewer surprises.
