Charles Blanchard Construction — Historic & Commercial GC in North Charleston, SC (Est. 1817)
The Blanchard family first built in Charleston in 1817. Two centuries later, Mike Blanchard and Matt O’Donnell are running the same company — Charles Blanchard Construction Corporation — at 2845 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. Mike has renovated buildings his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather worked on. Seven generations is unusual in construction, or anywhere else.
The company holds an unlimited general contractor license in South Carolina and operates through four divisions: Commercial, Industrial, Mechanical, and Historic. A 10,000 square foot in-house fabrication shop handles demanding equipment assembly for industrial processing clients.

- Historic preservation and restoration — specialising in Charleston’s older building stock
- Commercial construction: office, retail, institutional
- Industrial projects: processing plants, manufacturing facilities, custom fabricated equipment
- Mechanical division: in-house mechanical work for commercial and industrial builds
Service area
Based in North Charleston; primary focus is the greater Charleston region and Lowcountry.
Why it’s on home.renovation.reviews
Most contractors can’t walk a homeowner through a building their family originally constructed. Blanchard can — multiple times over. For historic Charleston properties where original construction materials and methods matter, a firm with seven generations of local institutional knowledge is a meaningful differentiator.
