Before I read more about condo renovations and permits on renovation.reviews, I thought renovating a condo would be simpler than renovating a full house. Smaller space, less work, less stress. But I found out that condo renovations come with a completely different type of headache.
A lot of people don’t know how many rules are involved until they try to start a renovation project.
There are approval processes, renovation hours, noise restrictions, elevator booking rules, material restrictions, contractor requirements, and there are also limits on what type of flooring you can install because of sound transmission to neighbors below.
Also there’s the neighbor complaints too. One loud renovation can easily affect multiple units around it, so complaints become part of the process very quickly.
Another interesting part for me is how condo boards and HOAs sometimes function like mini governments inside buildings. Even small renovation decisions involve paperwork, waiting periods, and a lot of communication before the work even starts.
This is why I can’t blame some frustrated homeowners. They technically own the space, but there are still a lot of shared rules because everyone is living so close together.
Condo renovations is always less pure construction and more about following systems and processes successfully.
