Small Balcony, Big Expectations Didn’t Go as Planned

I had this idea of turning my small balcony into a relaxing spot. You know, somewhere to sit in the evening, maybe with a drink, just to unwind.

I saw a lot of setups online plants, small chairs, lights and I thought, how hard could it be? Turns out, it’s not as straightforward as it looks.

First issue was space. Once I added a chair and a small table, it already felt cramped. Then I added a few plants, and movement became tight.

Second issue was weather. The sun hits that side pretty hard during the day, and some of the plants didn’t last long. I had to replace a few.

Also, dust. I didn’t expect how quickly things would get dusty outside. I found myself cleaning more than actually enjoying the space.

I’m not giving up on it completely, but I’ve definitely scaled down my expectations. Now I’m thinking of keeping it simpler maybe just one chair and fewer items.

Sometimes I feel like we try to recreate things we see online without fully considering our actual space and environment.

If you’ve set up a small balcony before, what worked for you? Because I’m still trying to figure out the balance.

Small balconies always feel bigger in ideas than in real life once you start adding anything, space runs out fast and the layout matters more than anything.

You should prioritise ventilation, after that just go simple with a comfortable sofa or couch
