Quick logistics question for anyone who lives in a high-rise condominium building. Our central air conditioning and heating system is completely shot and needs to be replaced before the heat waves start this summer. The HVAC company gave me a fair quote on the new equipment, but they said they need to coordinate with our building management because we are located on the 14th floor.
The elevator in our building is pretty small, and I am highly skeptical that a massive commercial-sized outdoor condenser unit is going to fit inside it.
For those of you who have replaced your HVAC units in a tall high-rise building, how does the delivery process usually go? Do the contractors actually have to hire a giant crane to lift the heavy equipment all the way up onto the roof or balcony space, or do they usually just dismantle the units into smaller pieces and bring them up through the service stairs? I’m terrified that the hidden delivery and crane fees are going to end up costing significantly more than the actual heating and cooling system itself. If you’ve been through this process, let me know what to expect.
