Open-concept homes always seem fantastic at first view. They are always very appealing, and that is due to the vast open areas, natural lighting, and spaciousness.
The more I consider it, though, the more I come to see that living in an open-concept home is different from appreciating one in pictures.
Noise is one thing people rarely talk about because
when the living room, dining room, and kitchen are all linked, sound spreads all around. Watching TV, cooking, talking on the phone, kitchen appliances operating, Everything at the same time, no walls.
All these in hectic homes will grow mentally taxing after sometime.
Another aspect that appears we don’t talk about is privacy. People occasionally really need distance without totally seclusion. A wall or a door might provide a feeling of tranquilly and privacy that would be impossible with open layouts.
And there’s the kitchen odour situation.
In Open-concept homes, whatever is going on in the kitchen becomes part of the mood of the whole house. Good food smells are lovely for a while, but the strong aromas from cooking that linger in furniture, curtains, will become irritating later.
Open-concept homes also appear simpler to maintain because, there is no space to hide clutter or chores that haven’t been completed.
I still get why people like the idea. Open plans can provide houses with a more social, brighter, and more connected general feel.
I just think a lot of people don’t know about the practical side as much as t
he aesthetic side.
