Ontario Trap Rock Ltd — Diabase Aggregate Quarry in Bruce Mines, Algoma District, Ontario
Ontario Trap Rock Ltd. is a diabase (“trap rock”) aggregate quarry near Bruce Mines on the Lake Huron North Shore, operated as a division of R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. since 1994. The deposit is exceptionally hard and durable — over 80 million tons of high-spec aggregate — and is shipped across the Great Lakes for rail ballast and the high-friction top lifts on major highways. In March 2026, the Government of Canada announced a $6.4M investment in an electric ship-loading conveyor that will replace diesel haul trucks running between the quarry and its commercial dock on Lake Huron.
Products and services
- Trap-rock aggregate — diabase, sized for rail ballast and high-friction asphalt top lift
- Marine shipping — direct loading at the company’s commercial dock on Lake Huron
- Bulk supply for civil and infrastructure projects — railroads, highway top-lift, port and breakwater jobs
- Cross-border distribution — destinations across Ontario, the Great Lakes basin and the United States
Service Area
The quarry is at Bruce Mines, Algoma District, with marine distribution across the Great Lakes (US and Canadian ports), and overland to projects throughout Ontario via Highway 17 and the rail network.
Why it’s on home.renovation.reviews
This is an industrial supplier — most home renovators won’t buy from the Bruce Mines quarry directly. We list Ontario Trap Rock for two reasons. First, the directory tracks the regional aggregate-and-quarry chain behind Ontario construction (alongside George Benn & Sons (Napanee licensed limestone quarry + septic) and Leveque Bros Haulage (Bancroft 10 pits/quarries + ready-mix)) so readers can see the supply side of the projects they hire for. Second, the quarry is a major Algoma employer and its 2026 conveyor upgrade is a directly-relevant economic story for the Lake Huron North Shore cluster of contractors we’re building out. Ontario Trap Rock is the directory’s first major shoreline aggregate / marine-distribution anchor.
