Check your gutters before you buy expensive waterproofing!

Just wanted to share a quick thing that saved me thousands of dollars last month. My basement wall was leaking pretty bad every spring and I thought for sure I was going to have to dig up my foundation or pay for major internal waterproofing.

Before doing that I went outside during a massive downpour to see where the water was actually going. Turns out my front gutter was completely clogged with leaves and maple seeds, so the rainwater was just overflowing right over the edge and pooling directly against my foundation wall.

I cleaned out the gutters and spent like $15 on a couple of plastic downspout extensions to move the water 6 feet away from the house. Guess what? The basement has been bone dry ever since. Not a single drop of moisture. If you have a damp basement please look at your roof runoff first, it’s the cheapest fix ever.

Basically, nothing was wrong with the house, it was just some materials blocking water flow

Managing roof runoff is the absolute golden rule of basement waterproofing. Clogged gutters dump hundreds of gallons directly onto your foundation. Clearing them out and adding cheap extensions saves thousands.

The cleaning and maintenance of gutters is very paramount, it should be done regularly

Simple gutter maintenance solved a major basement leak, proving exterior drainage issues often cause costly problems that are easily preventable.

It’s good to always observe what’s happening around your home

Thanks for sharing your insight and experience I’m really appreciate
