Hey everyone. I live in a mid-rise condominium unit, and the kitchen layout is tucked away in the back corner of the floor plan with absolutely zero exterior windows. The cabinets are a dark espresso color, the counters are black laminate, and the whole space feels like cooking in a cave.
Since it’s a condo, I have a few major restrictions:
I can’t knock down any walls because they are structural concrete pillars.
I can’t change the plumbing or add any new overhead electrical boxes without board approval.
My budget is pretty tight right now.
I already changed out the old yellow halogen lightbulbs for bright daylight LEDs, which helped a little bit, but the space still feels incredibly heavy and dark.
What are some cheap, reversible ways to brighten up a kitchen space when you can’t do major demolition? Should I try using that peel-and-stick countertop film to cover up the black laminate, or will that look incredibly cheap and tacky? I’m also considering painting the dark cabinet doors white, but I’ve heard that painting laminate or thermofoil cabinets is a recipe for disaster because the paint peels off instantly. Any creative ideas would be greatly appreciated!
