Changing a crushed dryer vent hose behind the wall

The laundry room has been getting incredibly hot and humid during every dry cycle because the flexible silver duct hose behind the machine was completely crushed against the wall. Cleaning it out revealed the thin foil had a massive rip in the bend, blowing lint everywhere. Bought a rigid aluminum pipe and a new exterior louvered flap to replace the whole line.

Wrestling the heavy dryer out of the tight utility closet was a total hassle. The space is so narrow I could barely get my arms behind the machine to loosen the metal pipe clamps. The old foil hose was completely packed with a thick, soggy layer of grey lint that spilled all over the floor tiles the second the connection broke.

Getting the new rigid pipe to line up with the exterior wall hole took way too much twisting. If the pipe bend isn’t perfectly straight, the dryer won’t push back into the closet properly. Had to go outside, pry the old rusted vent hood off the brickwork, and clear out old caulking before the new pipe sleeve would slide through the wall.

The rigid duct is clamped down tightly now and the new exterior flap opens smoothly when the machine runs. The dryer sits flush against the wall and the exhaust air blows completely clear outside. The ventilation is fully fixed.

I think a new normal pipe should be used to replace this one

Well done

Morden pipes are very strong to use more than thos aluminium pipe

Replacing that ripped foil vent with a rigid pipe was a claustrophobic nightmare. Dealing with soggy lint, tight closet space, and scraping old outdoor caulk was brutal. Dries great now, though.

Modern pipes are very durable to use more than the aluminium pipe .
