A general contractor can also act as the main point of contact between the client and all subcontractors.
Whether hired by a homeowner, business owner, or property developer, the GC takes full responsibility for coordinating trades, managing timelines, securing permits, and ensuring quality control. In most cases, the person or organization funding the project (the client) is who the GC ultimately works for.

This role is especially crucial on larger projects where multiple trades are involved. Without a general contractor, the client would have to manage each subcontractor individually, which can be time-consuming and risky if they lack construction experience.

Basically, a general contractor works for the person paying for the construction or renovation, that’s you, the homeowner. If you’re remodeling your kitchen or building a house, they’re in charge of getting the job done. They handle hiring and managing plumbers, electricians, and painters to make the project easier for you.

While they coordinate with architects, designers, and suppliers, their main duty is to deliver what the owner or client expects.
