Turning a Carriage House into a Modern Apartment Tucked behind a historic estate, an old carriage house once used for horses and storage stood abandoned. Its wooden doors sagged, and its roof was nearly gone. For young professional Lucas, it was the perfect chance to create a unique apartment with character. The renovation began with restoring the exterior. The carriage doors were replaced with glass-paneled ones, blending history with modern design. The brickwork was cleaned and sealed, and a new roof gave the building stability. Inside, the open floor plan embraced the building’s small footprint. The ground floor became a living and dining area with polished concrete floors and exposed beams. A sleek kitchen was tucked neatly along one wall, maximizing efficiency. Upstairs, the loft space was transformed into a bedroom with skylights that filled it with natural light. A compact bathroom was added with modern fixtures but rustic details, like reclaimed wood shelving, to honor the building’s past. The outdoor area was landscaped into a small patio garden, offering Lucas a private escape in the city. Conclusion: Lucas’s carriage house renovation shows how historic outbuildings can be reborn as modern living spaces. By blending past and present, he created a stylish apartment that celebrates its unique origins. ![1000572507](https://renovation-reviews.storage.googleapis.com/original/2X/1/104a4b1079f4ea7fb717ab10822a81311c060d01.jpeg) ---
