Transforming a Boathouse into a Lakeside Retreat At the edge of a quiet lake, a weathered boathouse leaned on its stilts, barely standing after decades of neglect. Once used for storing fishing gear, it had become an eyesore. For couple Claire and Thomas, however, it was an opportunity to create a unique weekend retreat. The renovation began with reinforcing the structure and repairing the stilts that anchored it above the water. The wooden exterior was refinished in soft blues and whites to reflect the surrounding lake. Large sliding doors opened directly onto a deck, offering panoramic water views. Inside, the open floor plan was designed for relaxation. A compact kitchen and dining area flowed into a cozy living space with nautical-inspired décor. Light wood flooring, airy curtains, and lake-themed accents gave the boathouse a breezy, vacation-like atmosphere. Upstairs, a loft bedroom overlooked the lake through expansive windows. The bathroom was modernized but included rustic touches like stone tiling and a wooden vanity. Outdoors, the deck extended over the water, with space for fishing, kayaking, and lounging. Conclusion: Claire and Thomas’s boathouse renovation demonstrates how forgotten structures can become escapes full of charm. Their project turned a rundown shelter into a lakeside paradise for family and friends. ![1000572579](https://renovation-reviews.storage.googleapis.com/original/2X/4/48181d62df6c1b6fdaa6982de42b43d7580109b9.jpeg) ---
