## Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is praised for its affordability and style, but is its durability genuine or overhyped? Here’s a balanced look at its performance. ```markdown LVP’s durability stems from its layered construction: a wear layer, vinyl core, and backing. High-quality LVP with thick wear layers (20+ mils) resists scratches, dents, and fading, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. It’s waterproof, unlike hardwood, and handles spills or pet accidents well, reducing long-term damage. However, cheaper LVP with thin wear layers (under 12 mils) can scratch or peel under heavy use, especially in commercial settings. Installation matters—poor subfloor prep can lead to buckling or gaps. Extreme heat or heavy furniture may cause warping or indentations, and sharp objects can puncture even quality LVP. Compared to tile or hardwood, it’s less durable long-term but more cost-effective. ``` **Conclusion: Luxury Vinyl Plank is durable for most homes when high-quality options are chosen and properly installed. While not indestructible, it’s a practical, budget-friendly choice, not just hype.** ![1000192722](https://renovation-reviews.storage.googleapis.com/original/2X/0/0de526f20a01e7e9f974ae39a3e3c377dc62a292.jpeg) ---
