Lighting is one of the most overlooked parts of renovation yet it has the power to completely change how a space feels A room with the right lights feels bigger warmer and more functional while poor lighting can make even the best design look flat

Natural light is always the first choice so renovation is the time to think about bigger windows skylights or glass doors Bringing in sunlight saves energy and makes the home feel more open and welcoming

When it comes to artificial lighting the key is layering Overhead fixtures give general brightness but they should be balanced with task lighting like under cabinet lights in kitchens or reading lamps in bedrooms Accent lighting such as wall sconces or track lights can highlight design features like artwork or textured walls and add depth to the space

Smart lighting is also becoming a strong option Dimmable fixtures or systems that can be controlled through a phone allow you to set moods and save energy at the same time It is a small investment that pays off in both comfort and efficiency

Final thought lighting should never be the last thing you pick It is what brings every other design choice to life Plan it during renovation not after and the results will transform your home more than you expect
