# Manitoulin Transport — North American LTL Freight Carrier Headquartered in Gore Bay, ON > **Editorial note (out-of-scope-preserved):** Manitoulin Transport is **not a renovation contractor**. It is one of North America’s largest less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carriers, founded in 1960 in Gore Bay by Doug Smith. The original directory entry mistakenly framed it as a renovation/moving company. The listing is preserved here as **regional trade-support / freight infrastructure** because so much of Northwestern and Northern Ontario’s construction-material supply chain — including Manitoulin Island, the North Shore, Sudbury, and points west — moves on Manitoulin Transport equipment.
