# Hiemstra’s Woodworking — Family-Run Custom Cabinet Shop in Aylmer, Elgin County, ON since 1967 Hiemstra’s Woodworking is a family-run custom cabinet shop at 136 South Street West in Aylmer, Ontario (N5H 1S1), founded by Wytze Hiemstra in **1967** and now operated by Charlie Hiemstra and Ryan Hiemstra as the only two employees. **Continuously operating for 58+ years** , this is one of the directory’s longest-tenured listings and the first Elgin County cabinet shop on the directory. As a two-person shop, every job is personally drafted, built, and installed by the Hiemstra family — there is no project-management layer between the customer and the people doing the work. ## Services - Custom kitchen cabinets, designed and built in-shop - Bathroom vanities, built-ins, and millwork - Solid wood and Mennonite-tradition furniture pieces - Custom finish carpentry to homeowner spec - Hand-finishing and on-site cabinet installation ## Service Area Aylmer, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg, Port Burwell, Springfield, and the surrounding Elgin County corridor along Highway 3 / Highway 73 — with the South Street West shop functioning as the primary client-meeting and showroom point. ## Why it’s on home.renovation.reviews Hiemstra’s earns a place in the directory on **tenure alone** : 1967 places this firm on the long-running-firm shortlist alongside Pat Noble Lumber Gore Bay (1949), Goderich Electric (1957), Sunvale Homes (3-generation Collingwood), and L. Patten & Sons (Collingwood, since 1958). The Mennonite woodworking tradition in the Aylmer area is a documented part of Elgin County’s tourism and craft economy, and Hiemstra’s is one of the named representatives of that tradition. As a tiny family shop, the public footprint is light by design — a Yellow Pages listing, a Facebook page, and a Houzz profile rather than a mass-marketing site. We’ve kept this profile honest about that scope rather than padding it with boilerplate. ## Related listings on home.renovation.reviews - [LMZ Contracting — Aylmer owner-operator GC](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/lmz-contracting/957) - [JFK Home Improvements — Aylmer roofing + doors since 1987](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/jfk-home-improvements/958) - [Cedar Ridge Construction — St. Thomas century-home + timber-frame](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/cedar-ridge-construction/959) - [Guenther Homes — Aylmer Tarion-licensed builder with in-house cabinetry](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/guenther-homes-inc/960) - [Premier Kitchens Inc — Collingwood AyA dealer since 2000](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/premier-kitchens-inc/621) - [McCully Cabinets — Napanee custom cabinet shop](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/mccully-cabinets-custom-kitchen-vanity-cabinetry-in-napanee-on/701) - [Pat Noble Lumber & Building Supplies — Manitoulin Island, since 1949](https://home.renovation.reviews/t/pat-noble-lumber-building-supplies-lumber-hardware-gore-bay-1949/666) ## More from the LF Builders network - LF Builders main site — [lfbuilders.ca](https://lfbuilders.ca) - LF Builders blog — [blog.lfbuilders.ca](https://blog.lfbuilders.ca) - Samm Simon’s 251 km charity run for cancer research — [sammsimon.ca](https://sammsimon.ca) * * *
