Giving a Row of Cottages a Second Life

In a small coastal village, a row of fisherman’s cottages sat abandoned, their roofs caving in and windows boarded shut. Tourists walked past them daily, unaware of the stories they once held. When a local developer named Fiona purchased the row, she aimed to restore them as vacation rentals while honoring their heritage.

The renovation began with stabilizing the structures. Stone walls were carefully repaired, and new clay-tiled roofs replaced the crumbling ones. Each cottage retained its distinct façade but was updated with fresh paint, shutters, and restored chimneys.

Inside, Fiona opted for cozy, coastal-inspired interiors. Whitewashed walls, wooden beams, and nautical touches kept the cottages in line with their seaside history. Compact kitchens and bathrooms were installed, using clever layouts to maximize space without sacrificing charm.

Each unit was given its own personality one decorated with bright coastal blues, another with rustic wood tones, and a third featuring vintage maritime décor. Outdoor courtyards were added, filled with flowers and seating, inviting guests to relax after days by the sea.

The cottages, once derelict, soon became sought-after stays, breathing life back into the village and providing sustainable tourism opportunities.

Conclusion:

Fiona’s restoration of the fisherman’s cottages shows how history can be preserved while adapting to modern needs. Her project revived a forgotten row of homes and turned them into a vibrant asset for the community.
