# From The Ground Up Construction — Custom Homes, Cottages & Boathouses in Bala, Muskoka, ON

From The Ground Up Construction was founded in 1999 by owner-operator Joshua Wassenaar in Bala, at the heart of the Township of Muskoka Lakes. Joshua learned carpentry from his father before starting the firm, and craftsmanship-first residential work has anchored the business since. This rewrite also corrects an import-time gravenhurst tag — the business is Bala / Muskoka Lakes, not Gravenhurst.

## Services

- **Custom Muskoka homes** — full design-through-finish custom residential builds.
- **Cottages** — waterfront cottage construction tailored to Muskoka lot constraints.
- **Boathouses** — traditional Muskoka boathouse builds and renovations.
- **Decks and docks** — cottage outdoor-living and waterfront carpentry.

## Service area

Bala, Port Carling, Torrance, MacTier, and the broader Township of Muskoka Lakes, with project reach across Muskoka and into northern Simcoe on select builds.

## Why it is on home.renovation.reviews

Bala is a different operating environment from Gravenhurst. The Muskoka Lakes township covers the core Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, and Lake Rosseau shorelines where cottage and boathouse work is seasonally paced and bedrock-dictated. A separate Bala anchor fills a real gap in the directory’s Muskoka coverage, and Ground Up’s 25+ year single-owner continuity is a useful trust signal for long-timeline custom projects.
