# Empire Building Construction — Commercial GC & Metal Buildings in Sioux Falls, SD (Est. 1983)

Empire Building Construction has been in the Sioux Falls market since 1983, when Ercell Fortney founded the company. It started as a commercial and industrial GC, but metal building erection became a signature service early on — they’re considered the premier metal building erector in the region. Over time, Empire ran into concrete subcontractors who couldn’t meet their quality standards, so they brought concrete flatwork in-house. That decision stuck, and concrete is now a substantial line of business, including work for other general contractors.

The company has 70+ employees and has acquired two other local businesses along the way: Golden Rule Construction and Parker Lumber, which now operates as Empire Lumber Company. Projects span South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.
