We considered doing our driveway ourselves. After all, we’d learned to tile, paint, and install trim. How hard could it be? Then we watched videos, read forums, and talked to a local installer. Concrete thickness, compaction, rebar, expansion joints, curing times suddenly it didn’t look like a weekend project anymore. Driveways carry weight, weather, and constant stress. One mistake in the foundation means cracks, sinking, or repairs sooner than expected. That convinced us to let professionals handle the heavy work while we tackled the surrounding landscaping ourselves. Hiring out didn’t mean losing involvement. We still chose materials, discussed patterns, and monitored progress but we let experienced hands do the technical parts. In the long run, that decision probably saved money. Instead of fixing problems later, we got it right once. DIY is great when the risk is small. When structural issues, safety, and drainage come into play, experience matters.
