In Des Moines, Iowa, I got tired of staring at a bathroom mirror that made the room feel dark and cramped. Replacing it sounded expensive, but it turned out to be one of the easiest upgrades I’ve done.

First, I removed the old mirror and patched the wall where the clips were. A little spackle and light sanding made it smooth enough for paint. After that, I repainted the wall with a moisture resistant satin finish.

Instead of installing another flat mirror, I mounted a framed mirror slightly wider than the vanity. It reflected more light and made the room feel bigger without changing anything else.

The whole project took a few hours and basic tools. Sometimes DIY is not about doing more work. It is about making smarter choices that change how a space feels
